A great day to play golf, and a pretty solid round. I started with a bogey by 3-putting 1 and then made a complete mess of the 115 yard par 3 #2 so was sitting at +3 walking to 3 tee box. Then we came alive: good drive and better 6-Iron to 15 feet led to a birdie. #4, made a 50 foot bomb for birdie. 2 putts from 20 feet on 5 for par. Then hit my third to 2 feet on the par 5 6 and made birdie…just like that back to even. Good pars 7 and 8. On 9, I hit my drive into the tree on the right and it bounced back into the marsh; re-teed and made an honest double (par on the second ball) so sitting at +2 walking to 10.
3 putted the 10th, hit a great drive and awesome 5 Iron to 20 feet on 11 where I 2-putted for par. Had a good look at birdie on the par-5 12th but missed it. My approach on 13 missed right but I was able to 2 putt for par. #14 is always tough, decent drive and a 5 wood left me short right of the green…chip and 2 putts for bogey. Good 5 Iron to the green on 15 and 2 putts for par.
#16 is my favorite, hard to describe why I just like the looks of it. Good drive, great 6 Iron to 7 feet and BIRDIE. So +3 going to 17. Great drive but left my approach just off the green. Stubbed a chip and then 2 putted for bogey. On 18, the par 5, I was hitting my approach from 110 and fanned it right but it hung up on the bank; chipped it up but missed the par putt so another bogey. A 77, and I am darn proud to have it after the way I started.
Overall, I hit my driver really well today and really set myself up for good approaches. And aside from a couple of 3-putts I made a lot of 5-7 foot putts which really help.
